Salvation Army’s 28th Annual Fabric Fair generated record-breaking proceeds at its new location

Carnegie, PA, April 16, 2016:  Throughout the year, women belonging to The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary work tirelessly, collecting scraps of leftover materials that people donate instead of throwing them out.  The ladies carefully measure and fold, sort and stack, and collect as much as they can; all in preparation for their Annual Fabric Fair that is held each April.

This year, Auxiliary members were a little concerned that they might not do as well as in the past because of moving to a new location.  For the first time, the Fabric Fair was held at The Salvation Army Pittsburgh Temple on McNeilly Road in the Mt. Lebanon area of Pittsburgh.  However, this event has such a following and has earned such a great reputation, people once again came out in droves to get great bargains; not only on fabric, but notions, craft supplies, books, sewing machines and more.  This year’s event, which was held on April 9th, raised more than ever before, with the record total of $44,516.24.  In addition, patrons were very pleased with the amount of space at the new location and the ability to purchase lunch on site.

The proceeds of this event assist The Salvation Army locations throughout Allegheny County by funding special programs or projects that their budgets can’t support.  The service centers provide critical assistance to the needy in their community; including food, clothing, rent and utility assistance and much more.  It is a huge help to them to have the support of the Women’s Auxiliary to be able to expand on the support they provide.

The Women’s Auxiliary also assists with other Salvation Army programs, one of which is “Treasures for Children”, which provides gifts for children who might not otherwise receive presents at Christmas.  The members work very hard, and get a lot of joy out of the contributions they are able to provide to make the lives of others better.  They always welcome additional volunteers to assist with The Fabric Fair and other projects.   For more information, please email Major Jody Kramer:  jody.kramer@use.salvationarmy.org
