The Salvation Army Dental Center is in the process of opening a satellite office at the Oil City High School for children in the area with a tentative date of October 24 for the go LIVE with patients. The Center also provides outreach through community education forums such as health fairs, school-based dental hygiene programming and works in partnership with Head Start on a program called Healthy Smiles Healthy Children.
Over the past two years the Dental Center has provided outreach education for more than 500 children, parents, and community leaders through these outreach efforts. Each year the Center also holds Give Kids A Smile, which is a national event that is sponsored by the American Dental Association.
Last year the Center served 40 children and had more than 70 others help out as volunteers. This year it has 85 children registered and 60 volunteers for its October 19 event. It will host the American Dental Association News who will cover the event and provide national recognition for the program and the people that the Center serves.
