Columbia Gas donates $5K to The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign

PITTSBURGH, PA (November 20, 2019) – With the late Thanksgiving holiday, The Salvation Army is losing a week of their annual Red Kettle campaign and faces a significant challenge to meet their goal by Christmas Day. Columbia Gas has made a $5,000 cash donation jump start to the campaign this year which begins on Black Friday. The goal is to raise $647,000 in Allegheny County by Christmas day.

Columbia Gas has been a tremendous supporter of The Salvation Army for many years. Their employees assist with toy sorting, donate gifts for children and families in need, and volunteer their time to ring the Red Kettle. Their gifts of time, talent and resources has helped many struggling families in need across Western Pennsylvania.

Now in its 129th year, The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is one of the oldest and largest charitable campaigns in the world. Every year, the campaign raises millions of dollars to provide toys for kids at Christmas, clothes and shelter for the homeless, food for the hungry, after-school programs for kids, and other services to America’s most vulnerable populations year-round.

“Columbia Gas is committed to giving back during the holiday season and throughout the year,” said

Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania President and Chief Operating Officer Mike Huwar. “The important service and work provided by the Salvation Army is critical to the health of our communities.”

Volunteer bell ringers and additional kettle sites are always needed. Please call (412) 446-1500 to contact your local Salvation Army for more information. Individuals also have the option to donate online or host a peer-to-peer fundraiser on social media.
