COMCAST CARES –AND THE NEW KENSINGTON SALVATION ARMY AND COMMUNITY BENEFIT FROM BOTH VOLUNTEER AND MONETARY AID

The Salvation Army in New Kensington could use some sprucing up.  Of course, the organization is also always in need of donations for its services and programs for the community.  “Comcast Cares”and will be there to help.   Employee volunteers will give of their personal time to make improvements at the Worship and Service Center; and based on the number of volunteers, the Comcast Foundation will provide The Salvation Army with much-needed funds.   On Saturday, April 25, local Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families, friends and community partners will be organizing the food pantry, painting and cleaning at the New Kensington Salvation Army, 1101 5th Avenue, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

For 14 years, Comcast has been celebrating National Volunteer Month each April through “Comcast Cares Day”.  This year’s company wide event on April 25 mobilizes over 95,000 Comcast NBCUniversal employees to volunteer for more than 700 projects across the country and around the globe.   To date, volunteers have contributed more than 3.7 million service hours to improve nearly 6,000 projects in the U.S. and around the world since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.

“We are very blessed to have this partnership with Comcast,” remarked Major Elvie Carter, Commanding Officer of The New Kensington Salvation Army.  “The less money we have to spend on upkeep of the property, the more we have to help the residents of the community, so we are extremely grateful for the help of the volunteers.”
