The Salvation Army’s Women’s Auxiliary donates fabric for 1,000 masks to Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital to help with shortage of supply

Auxiliary members are also sewing hundreds of masks to help Salvation Army staff and volunteers stay safe during food distribution and deliveries

PITTSBURGH, PA (April 3, 2020) – As health care facilities face shortages of supplies designed to protect their workers from exposure to COVID-19, The Salvation Army’s Greater Pittsburgh Women’s Auxiliary is demonstrating their caring spirit. The group donated five cases of cotton fabric to sew and cover 1,000 of Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital’s N-95 masks which will allow for a longer lifetime. Donations help supplement stocks so hospitals are prepared should the number of COVID-19 patients rise sharply in the coming weeks.

The Salvation Army’s Greater Pittsburgh Women’s Auxiliary is host of the 33rd Annual Fabric Fair, which is being rescheduled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. Auxiliary members are now using their background in sewing and design to help make face masks for Salvation Army staff and volunteers on the front lines who are serving meals and groceries to families and individuals in need.

The Salvation Army in Allegheny County is blessed with a Women’s Auxiliary that is over 70 members strong. Fundraising activities help support special program and critical services for families and individuals in need throughout the Greater Pittsburgh Area.
