The Salvation Army Hosts Superhero Drive-Thru Event; Suggested Donations from Attendees Will Support Purchase of Back-to-School Supplies for Local Children

The Superhero Drive-Thru Event kicks off at 1 p.m. on July 11 at Camp Agape

June 25, 2020 (Washington, PA) – Capes are not required for the heroes who will support local youth this July 11, as The Washington Salvation Army launches a Superhero Drive-Thru event to raise funds for back-to-school supplies for students and families in need.

The Washington Salvation Army is hosting its inaugural Superhero Drive-Thru event at Camp Agape in Hickory, Pa. from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 11. There, kids of all ages will have a chance to meet their favorite superheroes and princesses at a safe social distance, while taking a treat bag home and enjoying the scenic trails of Camp Agape.

Real-life heroes – local first responders – will also greet guests. There is no fee to attend, but a suggested donation of any amount upon entrance will support the purchase of back-to-school items for local children in need this fall.

For those who cannot attend but would like to make a financial donation they can be made online at: Salvationarmywpa.org/superhero. A $25 donation will provide a backpack and school supplies while a $60 donation will supply shoes for a child in our community. Any donation amount will directly impact the life of a child.

Funds raised at the event will be used to purchase backpacks, essential school supplies, and brand-new shoes for area school children whose families have especially been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic

Last year, the Washington Salvation Army provided 409 backpacks filled with back-to-school supplies to local children. Three hundred teacher supply boxes among 8 schools were provided to ensure teachers had the tools they needed to provide the best instruction, while 207 children received vouchers for new shoes, and 79 volunteers helped coordinate back-to-school shopping trips.

“This event will be fun for the whole family, while also giving everyone the chance to maintain social-distancing, and support a wonderful cause,” said Captain Amber Imhoff, Commanding Officer of the Washington Salvation Army Worship and Service Center. “We encourage families to come out, meet their heroes, and take home a treat bag. In today’s world, we know the extra stress people face, and hope the Superhero Drive-Thru will provide a light-hearted getaway for the afternoon.”

The Washington Salvation Army thanks its Sidekick Hero Sponsors: Dunkin’, Three Rivers Royalty, and CHROME Credit Union.

Donations can be mailed, shipped, or dropped off: The Washington Salvation Army Worship and Service Center, 60 East Maiden Street, Washington, PA 15301. Donations can also be made online here: Salvationarmywpa.org/superhero.
